Miss SA, Shudu Musinda hated looking in the mirror

The ever radiant Miss South Africa Shudufhadzo Musinda arrived at the studio for the #947DriveWithThando show on 947. As she walked in, the room could feel her presence.

Shudu was crowned Miss South Africa 2020 at the glittering pageant finale held in Cape Town for the first time.
The beautiful 24-year-old hails from Ma-Masia in Limpopo and has a Bachelor of Social Sciences in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from the University of Pretoria.

...for the longest time, I didn't find myself to be beautiful.

For me cutting my hair has always been something that I consider therapeutic. Because if I feel like I'm down, or whatever else, you know when I hear the clip of the sound [clippers sound], for me that's the most beautiful sound because it just feels like I'm shredding that off.

Everything starts with self-love, whether you've got hair or you don't have hair.

Aspirations to be president

Women need to occupy more leadership positions. And I feel like Miss South Africa is a great platform to show that the world is your oyster.

Quote from Shudu's Miss SA acceptance speech

Through this platform, I plan to continue and build on the beautiful and powerful legacy left by former Miss South Africa titleholders and continue to carry the baton of woman empowerment that the Miss South Africa organisation is built on and continues to strive for. I plan to bring more awareness to mental health, especially in rural and disadvantaged areas, because I truly believe that we need to work on the mind for any change to come about in this country. I plan to mobilise various stakeholders and the nation so we can bring about educational empowerment through the tackling of issues such as period poverty among young girls, workshops that teach children about the importance of mental health from a young age, and mentorship programmes for young women so they can be empowered to be agents of their own future.
